The Federal Government and the State of Alabama have established programs to provide financial assistance to veterans and their dependents. Our goal is to assist our VA students with resources and guidance to succeed in their educational goals. Educational counseling for veterans, dependents, and active duty personnel is provided through the Financial Aid Office. Veterans are encouraged to stop by the ESCC Financial Aid Office for applications and information or contact the College’s VA Coordinator.

NEW/TRANSFER STUDENTS:

After completing the Application for Admission, students should submit the following documentation.

  • Submit all college and military transcripts from all previously attended colleges, universities, and trade schools/certificate programs. See College and Military Transcripts section below.
  • Once your VA benefits have been approved through the VA, submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility. For your convenience, you can email this document to va@escc.edu.
  • Transfer students: Be sure you have notified the VA that you are transferring schools by submitting the correct form for processing. See Transfer Students section below.
  • After registration, complete the online ESCC VA Certification Request form. The ESCC VA Certification form will need to be submitted each term that you wish to use your VA benefits.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS FOR NEW OR CURRENT STUDENTS:

  • Student’s admissions file must be complete and all transcripts must have been received and evaluated. VA benefits must have been approved through the VA and the student’s Certificate of Eligibility must be submitted to the ESCC VA office.
  • Register for courses: The VA will not pay for courses that are not required for your degree program. Remedial courses taken online will also not be covered. Remedial Courses must be taken within a classroom to be eligible for VA Certification.
  • After registration, complete the online ESCC VA Certification Request form. The ESCC VA Certification form will need to be submitted each term that you wish to use your VA benefits.
  • If you plan on withdrawing from a course after enrolling and completing the VA Certification Request form, please be sure to notify the VA office via email at va@escc.edu. Be sure to include your full name and student ID number in all email correspondence.

COLLEGE AND MILITARY TRANSCRIPTS:

  • All college and military transcripts from previously attended colleges, universities, and trade schools/certificate programs MUST be submitted by all students utilizing VA benefits.
  • The Department of Veteran Affairs requires that soldiers and veterans obtain transcripts of their military training and experience to submit for evaluation and the possible awarding of college credits. Please see below how to obtain transcripts for specific military branches.
  • Members of the Army, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard should obtain their transcripts through Joint Services Transcript.
  • Members of the Air Force should obtain their transcripts through Community College of the Air Force.
  • All college and military transcripts should be submitted to the ESCC Admissions Office by mail to Admissions Office, P.O. Box 1300, Enterprise, AL 36331 or hand delivered in a sealed envelope from the school.

TRANSFER STUDENTS:

  • To notify the Federal or State VA that you are or have transferred to ESCC, see below to find the proper form to complete.
  • For Federal VA benefits such as Post 9/11 GI Bill® Chapter 33, Transferred Post 9/11 GI Bill® Chapter 33, Montgomery GI Bill®- Active Duty Chapter 30, or Montgomery GI Bill®- Selected Reserve Chapter 1606, please complete VA form 22-1995.
  • For Federal VA benefits such as DEA Chapter 35, please complete VA form 22-5495.
  • For State VA benefits such as the Alabama GI Dependent Scholarship, please see your previous institution to complete the Request for Supplemental Certificate ADVA-5s form. The previous institution will complete Section III– School Certification and send it to the State VA for processing. Once the State VA processes the transfer, a new Certificate will be sent to you and the school you are transferring to via mail.
