Academic Transfer

Many students attend community colleges with the goal of transferring to a four-year institution. Our team is here to help make sure you take the classes you need for the degree you want, saving you time and money. If you plan to transfer to a university in the State of Alabama after graduating from ESCC, see Alabama Transfers to determine what will transfer.

TRANSFER OF CREDIT POLICIES AND ARTICULATION AGREEMENTS

Enterprise State Community College’s policies regarding general principles for the transfer of credit are outlined in the College Catalog and Student Handbook. Students or prospective students with questions concerning the transfer of credit may contact the Registrar. Coursework transferred or accepted for credit toward an undergraduate program must represent collegiate coursework relevant to the formal award. Course content and level of instruction must result in student competencies at least equivalent to those of students enrolled in College undergraduate formal award programs. In assessing and documenting equivalent learning and qualified faculty members, the College may use recognized guides that aid in the evaluation for credit. Such guides include those published by the American Council on Education, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, and the National Association of Foreign Student Affairs.

The Alabama Articulation Program (called Alabama Transfers) is a computerized articulation and transfer planning system designed to inform students who attend Alabama Community Colleges about degree requirements, course equivalents, and other transfer information pertaining to specific majors at each state-funded four-year institution. Enterprise State Community College students planning to transfer to an Alabama public senior institution must complete and retain the Articulation Guide for their major along with the transfer institution’s Area V courses. The guide and Area V course listing must be submitted to the senior institution upon transfer. Students who are interested in receiving an Alabama Transfers Guide should visit the Alabama Transfers website. Information is provided in the College Catalog and Student Handbook.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I let ESCC know I'm transferring?

Contact any Success Coach at 334-347-2623 or via email at advising@escc.edu to let them know you’re interested in transferring.  They can explain how it affects you at ESCC and assist you with the transfer process.

What if one of the classes from ESCC didn't transfer to my new institution?

Partner with your advisor at your new institution and request a closer look and/or a course substitution.  Keep in mind that there are some classes, such as technical classes, that do not usually transfer.  Your advisor at your new institution can help you understand why it did not transfer in or if it can possibly transfer in.

How often should I meet with my advisor?

Plan to meet with your advisor at least once per semester, especially during your first few semesters at ESCC and as you near graduation.

Can I transfer to a new institution without graduating from ESCC?

Yes; you can transfer without graduating from ESCC.  If you are a few classes away from graduating from ESCC, you may want to consider sending a copy of your official transcripts back to ESCC from your new institution to do a Reverse Transfer.  A Reverse Transfer could potentially allow you to graduate even after you have left ESCC.

How do I transfer?

  • Complete an admissions application for the institution you wish to transfer to.
  • Submit any documents that the new institution requires, such as your transcripts
  • Let your ESCC advisor know you’re transferring
  • If using Financial Aid, make sure the new school’s code is included on your FAFSA and complete any Financial Aid requirements for the new institution.
