TA Benefit Information
Each branch of the military has specific benefits, as do veterans and spouses. Follow the military service branch and component specific instructions on how to request Tuition Assistance for your course(s). Take note of the TA application instructions/deadlines specific to your branch.
Review Your Eligibility
If you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces:
- Contact your military branch’s education office to find out what benefits are available to you
- Work with your Education Service Officer or counselor to set up your paperwork in preparation for Tuition Assistance authorization and any other potential benefits
Review Your Costs and Apply to ESCC
You should understand the cost of tuition, fees, and books for attending ESCC. Review your cost of attendance.
Book costs for courses can vary. The new ALL-IN Textbook Rental Program started Fall 2022. If you opt in for this program, The ALL-IN Program fee is $25 per credit hour. All classes will be included in the new program, except Aviation Maintenance Technology, Avionics, Mechatronics, and specific academic classes that do not require a book. All required course material will be covered in the ALL-IN fee, except specialty kits. (Students are not required to participate in the program, so there is an option for students to opt-out of this program if they do not feel it will benefit them. However, students are urged to remain in the program for the financial benefit they will receive. If a student chooses to opt-out, this must be done prior to any tuition payments being made or financial aid disbursements being processed to a student’s account.) To find more information on the ALL-IN Textbook Rental Program, please visit the Textbook Rental Page.
Submit Your Documentation on Prior Education
Send the Admissions Office official transcript(s) and a photo ID at admissions@escc.edu. If you are transferring credits from a post-secondary military or civilian institution, the Admissions and Records Office will also need your official transcripts. A Joint Services Transcript is required.
- Members of the Army, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard should obtain their transcripts through Joint Services Transcript.
- Members of the Air Force should obtain their transcripts through Community College of the Air Force.
All college and military transcripts should be submitted to the ESCC Admissions Office via email at admissions@escc.edu or by mail to Admissions Office, P.O. Box 1300, Enterprise, AL 36331.
TA Approval
GoArmyEd service members must submit requests in the portal and notify va@escc.edu that you have submitted a TA request. All other branches of service must submit your approved TA request to the Financial Aid/VA Office for processing (email to va@escc.edu).
TA Applied to Your Account
The Business Office will process your approved TA request and post the credit to your student account. Please ensure you review your student account to ensure your TA is posted.
Important Information About Military Tuition Assistance:
- TA is exclusive to currently serving members of the Armed Forces. If your ETS date falls during the academic semester, you will not get TA for that semester.
- TA is requested on a course-by-course basis, and each course must be part of an approved degree program.
- TA cannot be used for a lateral degree (you cannot use TA to earn a 2nd associate degree).
- TA can be reimbursed for up to 100% of the course cost, not to exceed $250 per credit hour. Up to $4500 per fiscal year applies for Air Force, Navy, and Marines. The Army cannot exceed $250 per credit hour, up to $4000 per fiscal year. The Coast Guard cannot exceed $250 per credit hour, up to $2250 per fiscal year. (Fiscal year resets on October 1).
- TA may NOT cover all course fees.
- TA can be used in conjunction with the GI Bill® but with some restrictions. Contact the ESCC Veterans Affairs Office for guidance at (334) 347-2623 ext. 2313 or email va@escc.edu.
- TA requests should be completed PRIOR to the start of the semester. Each military service branch has its own deadline.
- You must clear all prior balances and holds with the College in order to confirm your schedule each term.
- TA is a tuition reimbursement program. You will not receive an up-front payment. Payments are made directly to the college and may be applied later in the semester. You must pay all tuition due on your account when viewable. Payments not made by the provided deadline may result in schedule cancellation.
