Adult Education – GED/ESL

The Alabama Non-Traditional High School Diploma Option (HSDO) is designed for students 18 years or older who last attended an Alabama public high school.

Option 1 is for students who completed all of the required credits for graduation but did not pass portions of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE).

Option 2 is for those who completed at least 10 credits but did not earn enough credits to graduate. Instructors and the HSDO Coordinator work with students and local high schools to determine eligibility and graduation requirements.

The GED® exam is a nationally recognized high school equivalency test developed by experts with a 70-year history in high school equivalency. The test is aligned with current high school standards and career- and college-readiness expectations.

GED® Testing Topics:

• Math (115 minutes) – Quantitative & algebraic problem solving
• Science (90 minutes) – Life science, physical science, earth and space science
• Social Studies (70 minutes) – Civics and government, U.S. history, economics, geography and the world
• Reasoning Through Language Arts (150 minutes) – Ability to read closely, write clearly, and edit and understand written text

  • NOTE: If you choose more than one test subject at a time, you will only be shown days and times that are open long enough for both test subjects. To see more scheduling days and times, choose one test subject at a time.
• Step 3: Select your test center, date, and time
  • You can select up to 3 testing centers to compare availability.

*The cost of the GED is $36 per section or $144 for all four sections. Adult Education students may test for free when they qualify. Please see an Adult Education instructor for details and assistance scheduling an exam.

ESCC offers English language classes on the Enterprise campus to serve the growing population of non-English speaking members of the community. Students learn English skills using real-life situations and through listening and speaking activities. ESL classes equip students with the confidence and skills needed to better succeed in the workplace, community, and in other educational/training programs. Instruction is provided in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar.

The ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT NCRC®) is an assessment-based credential powered by ACT WorkKeys®. The NCRC is earned by completing three WorkKeys Assessments:

• Applied Math
• Workplace Documents
• Graphic Literacy

The NCRC® is accepted by more than 10,000 employers nationwide as a reliable way to verify individuals’ work skills. After earning the ACT NCRC, students can easily set up an online account at myworkkeys.com that enables employers to verify their credentials quickly and conveniently. They’ll also want to showcase their accomplishment by including information about achieving the ACT NCRC on their resumes and job applications. Issued at four levels, the ACT NCRC measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs across industries and occupations.

Alabama Career Essentials (ACE) is a FREE training course designed by the Alabama Community College System to provide Alabamians with relevant, cutting-edge, and industry-driven employability skills training to better prepare individuals for the Alabama workforce. The main goal of the ACE course is to ensure current and future workers are equipped with the skills necessary to enter the 21st-century Alabama workforce.

ACE participants gain the following after completing the program:

• ACT’s National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC)
• Alabama Certified Employee Certificate (ACE)
• One free college course (up to four credit hours)
• In addition to credentials, participants gain support, build confidence, improve their opportunities, and get access to ongoing skill upgrades and lifelong learning.

MAPS are short courses to prepare individuals for industry-specific information. The curriculum is designed to be self-paced and skills specific. Students will gain foundational competencies with a credential of value for entry-level work of a particular career pathway. At the completion of the course, a student will earn a MAP Certification for the industry-specific course they chose.
