WHAT IS BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT, AND WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Business is a diverse field that varies from personal business owners to assisting in the running or operating of an existing business. This field allows you to explore your options and see what the best fit is for you.

At Enterprise State Community College, our Business Administration and Management programs prepare you for any role in the business world that you choose. We have four degree options, from the short-term certificate to the associate degree option. Those options include the accounting realm or the management and supervision aspect. If those two aspects of the business world do not appeal to you, do not fear! You will receive preparation in human resources management, finance, and more.

Business Administration

STRENGTHS

Problem Solving

You must be able to figure out what the problem is and then put the needed solution into action.

Supervisory Abilities

You need to be familiar with how to use computers for legal research and litigation support.

Interpersonal And Communication Skills

Relationships will need to be built, between customers, suppliers, and employees. You must be able to deal with everyone on a day-to-day basis regardless of the emotional or stress level of the moment.

Budgeting

Money is key. If you do not budget, you may not have the money needed for certain things. You may even have to close the business due to not having money to keep the business in operation.

Planning

In order to be ready for every day and every situation, you must plan for it. You also must plan for the future so that you have something for your business to work towards.

Organizational Skills

There will be many things that you have to keep track of. If you do not have everything organized, then it will be difficult to keep everything running smoothly.

What jobs
can I get?

The business world has several fields that someone can enter. To name a few, there are positions in appraising, budgeting, accountants, auditors, managers, business
owners, analysts, and loan officers. Our business majors have the ability to easily start their path towards any position in business they so choose.

What type of work
do the jobs consist of?

Business Administration is often more of a behind the scenes type of position. Often, throughout their day, they may create reports and records, perform accounting, general office duties, and audit records for discrepancies. They may even pay bills or handle money. Making sure that everyone, including themselves, comply with each policy, procedure, or regulation that is set forth by the company or government is another part of their daily duties.

Business Management deals with a little bit of everything. Managers supervise employees and businesses in not only the day-to-day operations but also in the future planning. The day-to-day operations for a manager include directing activities, personnel resources for human resources, creating and implementing policies; goals; and objectives, purchasing things needed for sales or offices, scheduling employees, administrative activities, and more.

What’s the career
growth potential?

This type of position has the career growth to be whatever you make it. If you want to be your own boss, you have the option of owning your own business. At the same time, if you want to report to someone, businesses are always opening, and large corporations will always need new employees to keep their companies operating fluidly. Your growth in business depends completely on how high you want to climb.

For accountants and auditors, the average salary is $35,857. If you choose to own your own business, your salary ranges according to several factors such as sales, employees’ salaries, operational cost, etc. Usually, that range is from $34,392 to $75,076. However, it will be completely up to the business owner to make it what it is.
