What is Aviation Maintenance, and what will I learn?
Aircraft maintenance technicians, also known as an A&P mechanics, refer to an individual who holds an Airframe and/or Powerplant (A&P) certificate which is issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). An A&P license qualifies you as a general mechanic to work on aircraft. A&P mechanics repair and maintain airplane engines, landing gears, and everything except flight instruments, which requires additional training and certification.
Students can earn allowing a student to earn an FAA A&P in as little as 18 months. First, students can receive an airframe certificate in 12 months by completing four general-level classes and 6 airframe classes, before testing with FAA representatives for the official airframe certification. Students can then complete five powerplant classes to receive a powerplant certificate, before again testing with the FAA for the official powerplant certification.
ESCC’s Ozark campus and Andalusia site (located at the Southern Alabama Regional Airport) are certified by the FAA to teach all general and airframe classes. Powerplant classes are only offered at the Ozark campus.
On the Ozark campus, classes are 8 weeks long and meet Monday through Thursday. Both day and night classes are offered each semester, including summer semester. Day classes start at 7AM and 10:55AM. Evening classes start at 3:45PM and 7:10PM.
Classes at the Andalusia site are on the traditional 16-week semester schedule.
Meet the instructors
Instructors for the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program have worked in the aviation maintenance industry, many with decades of experience in the field. This means our students are receiving the best training to prepare them for success as A&P mechanics.
